一种高效中红外差频转换用MgO∶PPLN脊波导的设计
Design and Investigation of a High Efficient Mgo∶PPLN Ridge Waveguide for Mid-infrared Difference Frequency Conversion
摘要
针对退火质子交换(APE)MgO∶PPLN波导在中红外差频转换过程中存在模场约束能力弱、模场重叠因子小等问题, 提出一种基于反质子交换(RPE)工艺的高效MgO∶PPLN脊波导的设计新方法。采用RPE工艺, 使波导区域折射率呈对称分布, 有效调控基频光和闲频光模场分布, 提高模场重叠因子。仿真结果显示, 相比于APE MgO∶PPLN脊波导, 该新型脊波导可将基频光和闲频光的基模模场调控至波导中部区域, 模场重叠因子由0.2714μm-1提高至0.4614μm-1, 相应的中红外差频转换效率提高了2.98倍。
Abstract
A high efficient MgO∶PPLN ridge waveguide for mid-infrared difference frequency conversion based on the reverse proton exchange (RPE) technique was proposed to overcome the shortcomings, i.e. weak mode field confinement, low mode field overlap, of the traditional annealed proton exchanged (APE) ridge waveguides. Moreover, the index profiles of the waveguide become nearly symmetric after the RPE process, which is benificial to control the distributions of the fundamental and the idler light mode fields and then enhance their overlap factor. Our simulation results show that, the fundamental mode profiles of all the pump, signal and idler lights are located in the center region of the novel waveguide. Accordingly, the mode overlap factor is increased from 0.2714 to 0.4614μm-1 and the mid-infrared conversion efficiency is 2.98 times higher, compared to that of the APE ridge waveguide. Such results may provide reference and guidance for design and development of new high efficient waveguide devices for mid-infrared difference frequency conversions.
