Multiple resonant excitations of surface plasmons in a graphene stratified slab are realized by Otto configuration at terahertz frequencies. The proposed graphene stratified slab consists of alternating dielectric layers and graphene sheets, and is sandwiched between a prism and another semi-infinite medium. Optical response and field distribution are determined by the transfer matrix method with the surface current density boundary condition. Multiple resonant excitations appear on the angular reflection spectrum, and are analyzed theoretically via the phase-matching condition. Furthermore, the effects of the system parameters are investigated. Among them, the Fermi levels can tune the corresponding resonances independently. The proposed concept can be engineered for promising applications, including angular selective or multiplex filters, multiple channel sensors, and directional delivery of energy.

A polarization-insensitive, square split-ring resonator (SSRR) is simulated and experimented. By investigating the influence of the asymmetrical arm width in typical SSRRs, we find that the variation of the arm width enables a blue shift of the resonance frequency for the 0° polarized wave and a red shift of the resonance frequency for the 90° polarized wave. Thus, the resonance frequency for the 0° polarized wave and the resonance frequency for the 90° polarized wave will be identical by asymmetrically adjusting the arm width of the SSRR. Two modified, split-ring resonators (MSRRs) that are insensitive to the polarization with asymmetrical arm widths are designed, fabricated, and tested. Excellent agreement between the simulations and experiments for the MSRRs demonstrates the polarization insensitivity with asymmetrical arm widths. This work opens new opportunities for the investigation of polarization-insensitive, split-ring resonator metamaterials and will broaden the applications of split-ring resonators in various terahertz devices.

Abstract
High sophisticated optical monitoring systems like the OMS 5000 from Leyboldoptics are commonly used in vacuum coating system to improve the capabilities and reliability of production processes concerning optical performance and repeatability optics. This letter describes a method to perform high end optical filters with additional backside blocking over a wide spectral range. The direct monitoring with intermittent measurement on a large area rotating substrate holder is used to facilitate a narrow band pass filter of 2-nm half bandwidth at 532 nm and high transmittance together with a complex blocking filter to retard disturbing radiation from the ultraviolet (UV) range to the near infrared range. The machine is an ARES 1 350 coating system with basically standard configuration.

A single-frequency passively Q-switched laser was constructed, in which a co-doped crystal served as an active element, a mode selector, and a passive Q-switch simultaneously. In order to obtain the frequency instability of 10^(-6), a stable single-frequency operation was presented and its characteristics were determined. The experimental results showed that the stable single frequency could be maintained for half an hour and the linewidth was approximately 530 MHz at a pump power of 13 W.
